MFA - Moody Famiglietti & Andronico | by Christine Schneider | January 23, 2015
Here at the MFA Companies we find that inspiration walks through our doors every morning in the form of Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School (NDCR) students who are participating in our Corporate Work Study Program. In 2013 we partnered with NDCR as a corporate sponsor to bring four enthusiastic, creative students into our workforce for the school year where they worked to finance their tuition while simultaneously gaining valuable on-the-job experience. We are pleased to share that our experience has been beyond positive and we are now well into our second full year of the program.
Thrilled to welcome NDCR students back for the second year, we worked with the school to match the interests of the students with opportunities in the different departments of our Firm, such as marketing, human resources and our audit and tax practices. In addition to exposing the students to the many facets of our Firm, this matching approach has provided the students with an experience that best fit their areas of interest and has resulted in a high level of engagement from them. We find the students to be exceedingly motivated, mature and committed to the work and we are continuously impressed by their level of performance here in the office. Without a doubt the students have proven themselves to be valuable resources in supporting our members and we are already anticipating the benefits that year three of this Work Study Program will bring.
More about the NDCR Corporate Work Study Program
NDCR is located in Lawrence, Massachusetts and is part of the Cristo Rey Network, a group comprised of 28 high schools that provide a quality, Catholic college preparatory education to urban young people who live in communities with limited educational options. NDCR utilizes a longer school day and year than traditional high schools as it combines a rigorous college preparatory curriculum with the requirement that all students participate in a Corporate Work Study Program.
The Work Study Program helps students finance the majority of the cost of their education, gives them real world job experience and bolsters their self-confidence. Students are required to complete an in-house business training program before being assigned to the Work Study Program. It appears the training program really pays off as NDCR was recently ranked number one in overall student workplace performance for the third consecutive time!
