Calling all passionate, future-driven, and inclusive Lawrence young adults who are proud of their Lawrence roots! Come and spend the night with the Photo Voice and Common Sage crews on April 27th from 6:00-7:00PM at El Taller Café at 275 Essex St, Lawrence. This will be an event for youth, Lawrence pride, and creative expression!
My name is Manny Hernandez and I am a proud Lawrence resident, change maker, and artist. We’d like you to come and learn about Photo Voice, and enjoy your time with us as we showcase our first Photo Voice exhibit! Photo Voice is a photography-based social action project for community members by community members! The Photo Voice crew is a group of young adults that got together last year to create wonderful writing pieces and took pictures with disposable cameras. Using the hashtag, #IAMLAWRENCE, alongside powerful images and writing, these young adults and community leaders hope to bring a positive outlook on a city many people call home. Common Sage is a writing group that meet weekly to write about their interests(?). The goal of the Photo Voice initiative is it to empower young adults to creatively express their hopes and pride in their community. Together, we can make this an even better Photo Voice!
What I like most about being a part of Photo Voice is that the young adults come together in a way that always amazes me. They intuitively create unique ideas and discover new potential within themselves. This makes the experience truly memorable and reminds me to value self-expression while inspiring youth to do the same.
Together, with your support we will have a wonderful presentation night! This event will also lead us into the next Photo Voice opportunity! Young adults whom attend the event and are interested will be encouraged to learn more! Photo Voice is an initiative of the Youth Advisory Council with Children’s Friend and Family Services, Common Sage and Lawrence Arts House. If you would like more information about Photo Voice, please contact Eduardo Joaquin at (978) 651-2543 and to learn more about Children’s Friend and Family Services, please visitwww.childrensfriend.net. I look forward to meeting you on April 27th!
